What areas does Dothan Law Group serve?
Dothan Law Group serves Dothan, Houston County, and the surrounding Wiregrass counties of Dale, Henry, Geneva, and Coffee. All of our work is handled from one office on North Oates Street in downtown Dothan. We do not have branch offices, but we represent clients who live, work, or were hurt or charged anywhere in Southeast Alabama’s Wiregrass, and we can appear in the courts in each of these counties.
Dothan and Houston County
Most of our clients come from Dothan, the “Circle City,” and the rest of Houston County, including Kinsey, Cottonwood, Ashford, Webb, and Taylor. Dothan is the region’s hub for shopping, jobs, and medical care, and the traffic shows it. Many of our car accident and truck accident cases begin on Ross Clark Circle or on the highways that meet it: US-231, US-84, and US-431. Injured people are often treated at Southeast Health or Flowers Hospital.
Criminal cases here typically start with an arrest by the Dothan Police Department or the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. Felony and many misdemeanor cases are heard at the Houston County Courthouse in Dothan, while some city charges are handled in Dothan’s municipal court. Our partner Raynor Clifton began his career as a prosecutor in the Houston County District Attorney’s office.
Dale County: Ozark, Daleville, and Midland City
Dale County sits just northwest of Dothan, and US-231 connects Dothan to Midland City and the county seat of Ozark. That corridor carries steady commuter and commercial traffic, and wrecks along it are a common source of injury claims. Daleville and the communities near Fort Novosel also bring military families and frequent traffic through the area. Criminal and civil cases in Dale County are generally heard at the Dale County Courthouse in Ozark.
Henry County: Headland and Abbeville
Henry County lies north and northeast of Dothan. US-431 runs from Dothan through Headland to the county seat of Abbeville, and many Henry County residents drive it daily to work, shop, or see a doctor in Dothan. Crashes on that route, along with rural road accidents and criminal charges from the county, make up most of the Henry County matters we see. Cases there are generally heard at the Henry County Courthouse in Abbeville.
Geneva County: Geneva and Slocomb
Geneva County borders Houston County to the west and runs south to the Florida line. Slocomb sits on State Route 52 west of Dothan, a road many people use to commute into the city, and the county seat of Geneva is farther west. Rural highway crashes, farm and truck traffic, and criminal charges from smaller town police departments and the sheriff’s office are typical of the cases that come from here. Geneva County cases are generally heard at the courthouse in Geneva.
Coffee County: Enterprise
Coffee County, including Enterprise, is west of Dothan along US-84. Enterprise is one of the largest cities in the Wiregrass, and the US-84 corridor between it and Dothan sees heavy commuter and truck traffic. Coffee County has courthouses in both Elba, the county seat, and Enterprise, so where a case is heard can depend on where it arose. We handle injury and criminal matters for Enterprise-area clients from our Dothan office.
What if my case is outside these counties?
We focus on Dothan and the Wiregrass, but we consider matters outside this area on a case-by-case basis. If you are not sure whether we can help, contact our office and we will tell you plainly. If we are not the right fit, we will say so.
Frequently asked questions
Does Dothan Law Group have offices outside Dothan?
No. Dothan Law Group has one office, at 344 N Oates Street in Dothan. The firm serves clients throughout the Wiregrass from that office and can appear in courts in the surrounding counties.
Do you handle cases in Enterprise and Ozark?
Yes. Dothan Law Group represents clients from Enterprise in Coffee County and Ozark in Dale County, along with other Wiregrass towns. Cases are handled in the court where the claim or charge is filed, which may be outside Houston County.
Which court will my case be in?
It depends on where the injury or alleged offense happened and the type of case. Many cases are heard at the county courthouse in the county seat, such as Dothan for Houston County or Ozark for Dale County, while some city charges go to a municipal court.
Will you take a case from outside the Wiregrass?
Possibly. The firm focuses on Dothan, Houston County, and the surrounding Wiregrass counties, but matters outside this area are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Do I have to come to the Dothan office?
Your first meeting is usually at the Dothan office, but much of the communication on a case happens by phone or email. The firm provides regular updates so you know your next step and your next date.
